Adding Birds

To add your initial stock, or any birds you obtain later other than ones from eggs you hatch in AIMS, you use the menu option Add bird(s) to stock or the Add Group of birds to stock entry on the selection control on the left of the main screen

This will bring up the add group of bird form

To add your stock we suggest that you do so in batches of sex / species.

This makes it more manageable, as it’s easier to enter the details of 8 female Gyr Falcons and then come back to do male Gyr Falcons and then other species than it is to enter 60 bird in one session.

You can come back to this form at any time to complete the entries you have made but not yet added to your stock.

In this example we are going to add 4 female European Peregrine falcons, Falco peregrinus peregrinus

Enter 4 for teh number of birds to add and then tab out of the field which takes you into the Species field. As this is empty and is a field that has to have an entry AIMS brings up a selection list for the species.

Click in the first column, common name, and start to type the common name name you want, Peregri

AIMS automatically takes you to the entries starting with that wording.

In this case however we want a subspecies of Peregrine Falcon

It’s common name is European Peregrine Falcon. Common name are not always consistent and it can be difficult to locate a bird by it’s common name at times.

For example:

Bali myna (Leucopsar rothschildi), also known as Rothschild’s mynahBali starling, or Bali mynah, locally known as jalak Bali,

AIMS provides you with a way of dealing with this for common name, please see the article on Alternate Common Names for details

In this instance to locate a European peregrine falcon you can start typing European in the common name column

In which case it will bring up a long list of common names to go though.

Click in the Scientific name column and start typing Falco peregr to be given a list of all the Falco peregrinus subspecies.

Once you have the subspecies press enter and tab to the sex field.

This will pop up a selection list from which you can choose the sex.

Select the sex you want and press enter.

You can now add these four bird to page two

Click on the Add birds to Stock button and the entries will be added to the second page of the form, where you fill in the details of each bird.

Now got page two to fill in the information.

The items marked with red stars you have to complete.
The ones with blue are recommended.

If your bird only has a microchip and you do not want to put a split ring on it for identification, enter the microchip number in both the microchip field and the Identification field and select microchip as the identification type.

If you have a Article 10 Certificate for the bird be sure to fill the details for this in.

If you do so and use AIMS to produce your Article 10 certificate application, takes just two mouse clicks with no typing, for any offspring you produce for the bird then the parent Article 10 Certificate numbers will be printed on the application.

If you don’t have the details for the Article 10 Certificate to hand you can add it later.
For that and anything else you need to come back and check or fill in because you are not sure at this point be sure to put a note in the notes field and tick the Check Remainder box. You can then filter on this in the bird for to show you all birds for which you have ticked this.

The include in breeding stock box is ticked by default.
This is used in the egg form when selecting the parent from a dropdown F2 pick-list.
The list will only contain those birds for which this is ticked.

If you have young birds that are not part of your breeding stock at this time you can untick this.

Once you have filled in all the details for the birds click on the Add Birds to Stock button on the right of the form.

AIMS will validate the data and if it passes validation all the birds are aded to your stock.

If any of the birds fail the validation then none of them are added to stock and you wil be show what needs to be corrected.

Correct the endtries and try to add again.

You then repeat the process for another batch of species / sex until your stock are all in AIMS.

You can close this form at any tome and come back to it to complete the entries.

You now have your stock in AIMS and start to use it for stock management and incubation
