CITES stock list spreadsheet

The UK CITES Authority recently emailed UK raptor breeders asking that they send in a list of their stock with A10 permits so that they can be pre-checked in order to speed up A10 applications for the 2026 season for those wanting to pass on birds for imprinting.

This was asked to be in the form of an Excel file,

AIMS can now produce this for you, with three mouse clicks.

This is accessed via the Pro Version menu.

This produces an Excel spreadsheet with three pages.
Page one contains the date created and users name and address.
Page two contains your breeding stock.
Page three contains your non breeding stock.

Birds are listed in order of species, sex, ring number.

You DO NOT need Excel on your computer for AIMS to be able to produce this  file as AIMS can do this without the need to interact with Excel.

Data compliance report

This report has been added to AIMS for two reasons:

  1. You are required by law to maintain proper records, this allows you to check your data for each bird.
  2. Many users are finding that they have not added ALL of the text on a ring to their A10 applications, the A10s issued from these will be invalid.

This is accessed via the Pro Version menu.

You can select to produce the report for:

  1. Breeding stock.
  2. Non breeding stock.
  3. Non stock birds – those you have sold or have died, etc.
  4. All birds on system.

The report gives you details of your stock and highlights in red any issues that it detects in your data that would mean that you are not in compliance with legislation, such as not recording the details of the person from whom you obtained a bird, hatch date, etc.

It will also check issues with ring numbers as they have been entered into AIMS.  An A10 Certificate that does not contain ALL of the wording on a ring is invalid.

For example it has recently been highlighted that many people using IBR, Independent Bird Register,  rings are just using IBR then the ring number on their A10 Certificates, such as IBR12345W.  This makes the A10 Certificate for these birds invalid, as they do not contain the ring number as it appears on the ring.

The IBR rings have a format of :
12345W (ring size) TEL 08706088500 IBR UK

All of these details must appear on the A10 Certificate and in the order they appear on the ring, or it is invalid.

AIMS will check:

IBR rings for correct format.

Country of Origin against certain patterns of ring data.

Source code against certain patterns of ring data, such as birds with American rings would normally have a source code of D.

That birds you have obtained from others or have passed onto others have a name and address associated with their acquisition and disposition records.

Any issues it finds are marked in red on the report.

During development we ran the code against four users current data sets.

Everyone of these had ring or source code issues which made the A10 Certificates these users currently hold for those birds invalid.

Sped up the code that runs after update

When you update to a new version of AIMS it has to run a lot of checks on your data, as you might be updating from a very early version.

We have considerably increased the speed of this process.

Added code to system check egg data to reset pip and Kw use flags

In the egg management form you can mark an egg’s pip time to be used for reference when calculating pip time in the future.  You can also mark it’s fresh weight, length and width to be used for Kw calculations.

Sometimes these are ticked by mistake and this causes discrepancies in the data caused by values outside of the normal range.

AIMS now allows you to run a check on these.
The checking code calculates the mean and standard deviation values for each of these at species level. It will mark only those values which are plus or minus two standard deviations from the mean to be used.  This takes out any values that are outside of the normal range.

This is run from the Incubation menu.

Other Items

Added “Acquisition – Import” to the movement reason records table.

Increased the speed in which AIMS runs by refactoring a lot of internal code.
Date format
The first time you run this version of AIMS you will see a screen to select the date format that you want to use to display dates in AIMS.
If you want to change it from the one initially displayed just click on the arrow and it will bring up a list of various date formats
This only effects the way dates are displayed in AIMS.
Internally AIMS stores the dates in its own format, so you can switch between display formats and it will not effect the actual value of your dates, such as British 25/05/2026 and American 05/25/2026 are the same date and will display as this if you switch between British and American date formats.
You will only see this form the first time you run this version.
if you want to change it at a later date you can access this form from the Admin menu.

Following the recent changes in CITES for some species moving appendix we have updated these entries in AIMS.
