Estimated reading time: 1 min

First make a backup of your data from the File / Backup restore menu option.

In version 8.0 of AIMS we introduced an auto update feature.

This allows you to check with our update server to see if there is a new version of AIMS available.

If there is and you have a valid support licence AIMS will download and auto install the update for you.

If you do not have a valid support subscription you will be informed and shown when it expired.

To obtain a new support subscription please contact our support staff.

You can use from the File menu / Check for Updates to open the form to check

AIMs will download the update file to your visualaims directory

You then restart AIMS and it will install the update for you automatically.

The update works from a standalone install of AIMS or a server install.

If you are on a workstation you need to do the update on the server and the workstations will then auto update themselves when you run it.

If you are updating from a version earlier than 8.0, or wish to manually install the update:

Download the latest version of AIMS from the link provided to you when you purchased AIMS or updated your annual support package.

If you don’t have a current Support Package please contact us for details on how to obtain one.

Extract the downloaded zip file into your visualaims directory, usually c:\visualaims.

Right click on the visualaims_setup.exe file and select “Run as Administrator”

This will install AIMS over your existing install, without loosing any of your data.

Run AIMS and it will run some update routines when it first starts.

Next goto check system menu option

This will bring up the Check System form.

If you are updating from a version earlier than 7.0 run the Check Data after updating from version earlier than 7.0 button at the top, then run each of the other checks in order shown, except number 4 – Rebuild Taxon Databases, as that will have run automatically when you first ran AIMS after the update .You now have the latest version installed and you are ready to go.

If you are running version 7.0 or above run each of the other checks in order shown, except number 4 – Rebuild Taxon Databases, as that will have run automatically when you first ran AIMS after the update .You now have the latest version installed and you are ready to go.
